Nurse Redheart and the Geneva Convention

Gather round, children. It’s time for a story. A pretty serious one in the eyes of the International Red Cross. We all know Nurse Redheart, beloved hospital pony. Her cutie mark is one that depicts the Red Cross, because she’s a nurse. Simple, right?

Yesterday’s episode, we see that her cutie mark has been changed. No more Red Cross. Wonder why?

The practice of unknowingly misusing the Red Cross logo is common sight and one that is hard to keep up with. The logo, believed to be public domain, is actually protected by international law and prohibits its use for purposes outside of being officially sanctioned by the ICRC. Video games are the most common medium flagged by the Red Cross for misuse (like health packs).

Redheart’s appearance has already been altered in some merchandise, but this would be her first appearance on the show showing the change.

Replacements for the generic health symbol include the green cross, a red H or the Caduceus.

And now you know.
