Maybe I could do a writeup about my story with My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic while Twitter is down. Let’s see.

It was the afternoon of May 13th, 2011, I found the show on YouTube without any apparent Internet intervention. I traced it to the doings of Lauren Faust who I already know as Craig McCracken’s spouse and colleague during his days at CN.

I’ve been a fan of Craig McCracken, especially when the Powerpuff Girls came to be. Then Foster’s Home showed us what Flash animation could be capable of. So when I saw MLPFIM, it kinda grew on me straightaway for its all-girl-without-the-softy charm and same brand of animation techniques. It didn’t change anything after finding out Twilight Sparkle was voiced by Tara Strong.

My first eventual attempt at MLPFIM fanart was on 15th December that year. I say eventual because after design school, I had a grasp on Adobe Illustrator and knew my way around vector graphics. I’ve done Sonic the Hedgehog and PPG fanart before, so this was kinda a natural inclination.

Naturally, I tried my hand at Twilight, the pony that got me into this whole thing in the first place. She looked a bit off, but I uploaded that onto my deviantArt anyway. It triggered a few blips then, but I decided maybe I could do a little bit more.

The blips came in and it pleased me, knowing there were actually folks who enjoyed my true-to-show art style, creating scenarios never to be seen on the show, and stuff fans would love to have seen after drawing conclusions from the show, like Fluttershy forgiving a tantrum-throwing Angel Bunny or Rainbow Dash giving Scootaloo a flying lesson.

I still make fanart pretty much the same way today, doing so has made me feel special. That little special something that comes with being a brony (I don’t remember when I was aware of my being one, but it came).

Oh, well. Twitter is back on. That’s about it. If you’d like, I could write more next time. My askbox is open if you’d like to drop me a question.
