Demon? Spirit? Monster??
Records indicate that a group of Chinese settlers who once made part of Gravity Falls their home, one day packed up and disappeared after they were stalked by a giant beast lurking in the shadows, got attacked, or maybe just moved on to find a new home. This town being what it is, I don’t blame them.
Oranges! Bring oranges!
It is said that those to encounter this beast will be plagued by an eternity of bad luck. I’m not all that superstitious, but nevertheless I came prepared. Chinese firecrackers are its one weakness, or so I’m told.
Yes, I had fun with this one. My first proper Gravity Falls piece. It’s the Chinese Year of the Pig, and Waddles is a pig, and Chinese mythology can be weird, like the town of Gravity Falls.
That said, the beast isn’t directly inspired by Chinese mythology, or at least I wasn’t trying to. It’s an original beast based on existing monsters from the show, mainly the Gremloblin, and a lion dance costume.
And compared to MLP or Star vs., Gravity Falls backgrounds are hard to emulate, so most of it was derived from the opening scene of the first episode.
Happy Lunar New Year, everyone.
