Twilight Alicoronation: Now What?

So. Twilight as an alicorn is canon, or will be come February 16th. The general fan population is in disarray over the acceptance of the revelation from Hasbro.

I wasn’t too pleased at first because Twilight was pretty much how I started watching the show. Having her transform into something else brought to mind the day Ben Tennyson turned 15 and I couldn’t let that happen again. But then I gave it some rational thought…

The show has always been made to sell toys, and sell it shall, so storylines have always been adjusted around it. No use ranting to Lauren Faust (who left the show after Season 2, watch for her and CMC’s upcoming “Wander Over Yonder”), or to M.A. Larson or the rest of the writers or voice actors, because they’re just doing their job. And if have been trusting the writers and VAs on their work, then you’re halfway there.

This will also cause an imbalance between the Mane 6’s 2:2:2 ratio and weakens the importance of “real” alicorn royalty. The worst thing that could happen is that the show will eventually reset itself into the namby-pamby princess teatime type MLP has become before, but it could be pretty hard for that to happen with the extremely unexpected adult fans of us, and we know how to make ourselves heard.

I’m adjusting my feelings towards the last days of David Tennant’s run as The Doctor before Matt Smith succeeded him. I didn’t quite like him either at first, but now he’s my Doctor. David Tennant’s run won’t be soon forgotten, and neither will Unicorn Twilight’s.

Accept it or not, the change is here to stay. This will kill those of us who are in the MLPFIM fanart and animation cohorts with tons of Wingless Twi’s, but just get used to it, we’ll always have our “obsolete” stuff for good memory.

I’m sure her friends don’t mind her sprouting wings. She was meant to be special the day the series was made. Otherwise, we’ll always have the adorable Filly Twilight Flashbacks.
