Pokémon GO: Fun While It Lasted

Needless to say I lost my shit when I heard Niantic’s Pokémon GO was officially on the Australian App Store, of which I have access to. Like Miitomo’s launch, this game will be meted out country to country, but was open for global use*.

After installing it and signing myself in, I chucked Pokéballs at a Charmander, not realising thereafter that these Pokéballs turned into a limited resource. The area around me had plenty of PokéStops, many of which were the same landmarks Ingress had.

I soon caught everything in sight and managed the takeover of three gym spots as a representative of Team Yellow/Zapdos. Then things winded down after 4pm in the afternoon.

I guess *Niantic got wise to the “antics” of other players outside of the Austra-Zealand borders and terminated all PokéStops beyond the permitted regions, presenting us “early birds” with nothing but an empty playing field. VPNs do not help. The physical landmarks were disabled.

So until they actually launch the game proper on a global scale, the rest of the world is out of luck. For now.
